How many Upaniṣads are there?

  • 10 Principal (Mukhya) — accepted by all Vedānta schools
  • 13 — commonly used expanded list
  • 18 — traditional symbolic grouping
  • 108 — listed in the Muktikā Upaniṣad

The 10 Principal Upaniṣads alone are considered doctrinally foundational.
